Brain proteomic analysis implicates actin filament processes and injury response in resilience to Alzheimer’s disease

This research was ethically approved by the University of Washington Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Stanford University IRB. All study cohort participants provided informed consent under protocols approved by these IRBs. Sex was considered in the study design and was determined based on self-report (male N = 24 (55.81%), female N = 19). Cognitive diagnosis of dementia or not dementia was made using DSM-IVR criteria; an initial provisional diagnosis of dementia was followed one year later with a confirmed diagnosis of dementia. Starting with 737 brain donations, a total of 340 research brain donations that had been dissected and flash frozen within 8 h (mean ± SD = 4.4 ± 1.3 h) of death.
