In this longitudinal nationwide study, we analyzed the risk of incident AD and VD according to visual function. Previously, there are very few studies that provide a large sample of adults with data on visual acuity and dementia incidence and diagnosis with consecutive follow-up data. The National Health Insurance System (NHIS) of Korea enables us to analyze a large dataset to examine and address the association between poor vision and dementia incidence. We also considered confounding factors including age, sex, smoking, drinking, exercise, diabetes, hypertension, and lipids levels.
