Communicating with People with Dementia: The Value of Individuality (part 2)

Part 2 of 3 videos in which Dr. Steven Sabat of Georgetown University speaks about the importance of the language used to communicate with persons who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. He describes how the words we use can lessen the social stigmas associated with dementia. In this video Dr. Sabat describes the effects of the label “patient.” He offers some advice on how to communicate with and describe people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias to better emphasize their individuality.
