Modifiable Risk Factors: Diabetes and Obesity

Diabetes and obesity are vital risk factors in Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Effective public health measures to reduce obesity and diabetes risk will also reduce the risk of dementia in a community. Dr. Mark Espeland from Wake Forest School of Medicine explains the evidence and implications for public health.

Public health professionals and others addressing overweight, obesity and diabetes in communities can benefit from this review of the science linking diabetes and obesity risk with Alzheimer’s and dementia risk.

The Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Risk Reduction is made possible by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a financial assistance award totaling $733,487, with 100% funded by CDC/HHS, Grant # 5 NU58DP006912.
