Luis Fonsi: Girasoles (Sunflowers) | Alzheimer’s Association

In this behind-the-scenes video for the Alzheimer’s Association Music Moments project, multi-platinum-selling global artist Luis Fonsi shares his personal connection to his song “Girasoles” (“Sunflowers”) and his thoughts on music’s ability to connect us to life’s most important moments.

“That’s what music gives us, no? A little bit of that love, that warmth and those memories.”

Luis Fonsi has taken the world by storm with several No. 1 songs, including his record-breaking global hit “Despacito,” which earned seven Guinness World Records and is still one of the most-viewed videos in YouTube’s history. As one of the leading Latin music artists of his generation, Fonsi uses his voice for good and has received recognition for his philanthropic and humanitarian work.

“Music has that power of transporting us to that place that we all need to go every once in a while,” Fonsi says, recalling childhood memories of his family playing music together in Puerto Rico and performing the musical routines of bachata-merengue group Juan Luis Guerra y 440 with his dad and siblings. For Fonsi, music is synonymous with unity and love — feelings he’s channeled into “Girasoles” (“Sunflowers”). By lending “Girasoles” to the Music Moments project, Fonsi hopes to send a message of encouragement: “I’m hoping that this song will not only resonate for those with Alzheimer’s but also for their caregivers — their loved ones — who also need that love, need that push, need that light.”
