This study was based on the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening (NHIS-HealS) cohort released in 201512,13. The general health screening program can be applied at least once every 2 years for the entire population of Korean adults aged 40 years or older14. The cohort consisted of 514,764 Koreans as an initial 2002 cohort and followed subjects through 2013 on data including sociodemographic information, diagnoses based on the 10th revision of the International Classification of Disease-10 (ICD-10) codes, admission, treatment, and National Health Screening data12,13.
