Subventricular zone involvement is associated with worse outcome in glioma WHO grade 2 depending on molecular markers

Study population

182 patients with supratentorial glioma WHO grade 2 were identified (Table 1). Patients were treated for the following underlying histopathologies: oligodendroglioma (97/182 patients, 53%); diffuse astrocytoma (79/182, 43%); gemistocytic astrocytoma (3/182, 2%); pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (2/182, 1%); and protoplasmic astrocytoma (1/182, 1%). 78 of 182 patients presented with glioma involving the subventricular zone at time of initial diagnosis, and the relative incidence of subventricular zone involvement was therefore estimated to be 43%. Median age in patients with subventricular zone involvement was 40 ± 1.7 years (range 20–81 years) and 38 ± 1.1 years (range 18–66 years) in patients without subventricular zone involvement (p = 0.283).
