The Head & the Heart: Backwards Breathing | Alzheimer’s Association

The Head and the Heart releases their new original song “Backwards Breathing” for the Alzheimer’s Association “Music Moments” album. In this behind-the-scenes video, Matt Gervais, Jonathan Russell and Charity Rose Thielen share their personal connections to the song and their thoughts on the power of music to connect us to life’s most important moments.

“Music can channel the spiritual and connect us all.”

The Head and the Heart is an indie folk band with four albums — two of which made Billboard’s Top 10 albums chart — whose songs have been featured on countless TV shows, films and commercials. The band’s original song, “Backwards Breathing” was a natural inclusion for “Music Moments,” band member Matt Gervais says. “It’s a song about overcoming anxiety, and a lot of what familial relationships go through when a loved one has Alzheimer’s is nothing but anxiety and stress and fear and guilt. The song is about getting through these things together and coming out on the other side.”
