Sharon Van Etten: If My Love Could Kill | Alzheimer’s Association

Sharon Van Etten reinvents “If My Love Could Kill” for the Alzheimer’s Association “Music Moments” album. In this behind-the-scenes video, Van Etten shares her personal connection to the song and her thoughts on the power of music to connect us to life’s important moments.

“When people hear this song, I just hope they don’t feel alone.”

Sharon Van Etten is a singer-songwriter and actress who guest starred on Netflix’s “The OA” and whose fifth album, “Remind Me Tomorrow” was among the best albums of 2019 according to NPR Music, Billboard, “Fresh Air,” “Rolling Stone” and more.

Van Etten chose “If My Love Could Kill” because she and her mom both share a love for Lucinda Williams’ music. Williams wrote the song to express her love for her father and her struggle to understand his battle with Alzheimer’s. Van Etten points out that while this song captures the frustration of Alzheimer’s, it’s also a song that’s rich with compassion for those living with the disease. “When people hear this song,” she says, “I just hope they don’t feel alone.”
